Mark Westlake is the Chief Revenue Office for TechMediaNetwork.
Slashdot has often taken a mediawatch role, especially when it comes to
technology coverage -- which is what TechMediaNetork does for a living.
As Chief Revenue Office, Mark
is in charge of making sure enough money comes in to pay writers and
editors, pay for bandwidth and servers, and hopefully have enough
revenue over and above expenses to show a profit. We've interviewed
editors and writers, and plenty of writers' work gets linked from
Slashdot, but we pay little or no (mostly no) attention to the business
side of the publishing business. Like it or not, if we are going to have
online news someone has to sell the ads and make decisions about
whether to set up a paywall
or not. That's Mark's job.

The future of e-commerce...sometime soon, all things that will be seen on the internet will require some form of payment.
ReplyDelete"Like it or not, if we are going to have online news someone has to sell the ads and make decisions about whether to set up a paywall or not." - correct. News and any form of media production get their money from ads. In the online world, they can't assure that they'll get advertisers to advertise in their site. Since the online world is growing, in the future, we'll have to pay for everything online. Nothing will be free anymore.
ReplyDeleteCybersphere surely is beneficial in so many ways. Imagine, just with it, a person planning to put up his own business could promote it in less expense but with a bigger impact, just amazing, isn't?
ReplyDeleteThis is why I salute advertisers in being able to keep up with the trend. Most agencies today are now practicing advertising online, and they're even improving the ways they could apply their traditional ads into online standards.
ReplyDeleteEven the advertisements are now evolving online. Advertising agencies are practicing and improving their skills to adapt to the online trend and assure that they can influence effectively with just the use of the internet. Having online news will bring opportunities to radio, tv and print media to expand online too. I would say, this would create equal advantages, as well as disadvantages.
ReplyDeleteBeing a writer and publishing a book at this time and age connotes many activities. It will be too taxing for the writer to mind the marketing part of the book. As such, it is advisable that another person well-verse on the subject accomplish the task.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying these spam posts. They're probably all from one paid spammer promoting multiple clients. Such a sad way to get inbound links!
