‘The World’s First Video PR Pitch’
I got a piece of PR spam today that claimed to be the world’s first video press release. You might want to look at it (click the link) before clicking on the big ‘ol picture below and watching my response to it — which is almost certainly the world’s first video response to a press release. (Click “Read the Rest” to see the full text of the PR email that started this silliness.
Note: This was not the world’s first video PR pitch. Here’s one from February, 2006.
Dear Robin,
In honor of Stickam’s launch today of a new media sharing application that allows social networkers instant access to community content anywhere on the Stickam network, I am sending you the release and what we believe to be the first ever video PR pitch with more info on Stickam.

Stickam™ Launches Shared Media Playlists to Allow Social Networkers Instant Access to Community Content
Feature Augments Company’s Industry Leading, Live Streaming Video Capabilities; Members Can Now Quickly Add Videos, Photos and Music From Anywhere in the Stickam Network to Personal Playlists
LOS ANGELES (July 26, 2006) – Social networkers, bloggers and online video junkies have a powerful new tool at their disposal today with the launch of a new media sharing application on Stickam™, the Internet’s most powerful, free video communications player. This new tool brings an enhanced level of interactivity to the Stickam™ community by allowing users to add any of the cool videos, music or photos that have been uploaded by Stickam’s members to their own personal playlists.
With over 80,000 users, the Stickam™ media player is the first Web tool to combine live Webcasts, video chat, recorded video, photo and music functions in one application. What makes Stickam truly unique is that users can “stick” the player on virtually any modifiable Web site such as a blog, MySpace profile page or eBay auction page—they can also use Stickam.com as their main social networking page. And what’s even cooler is that users can have their live video or recorded playlists running simultaneously on multiple sites!
With its virtually limitless applications, Stickam™ has become the tool of choice for everyone from indie bands who use it to broadcast their gigs live online, to social networkers who use it to video chat for free with friends, to bloggers looking to spice up their pages with video entries. And with the new media sharing function, all it takes are a few mouse clicks for Stickam™ users to build their own playlists featuring the coolest videos, photos and music that other members have posted.
“The ability to search through a vast and growing library of content and then seamlessly include it on your social networking page or blog using Stickam™ is unprecedented,” said Hideki Kishioka, CEO of Stickam™. “Let’s say you have a blog devoted to extreme sports. With the new media sharing feature you can search all of the photos and videos that have been posted to Stickam™ in these categories and then add them to your site.”
Organizations have also flocked to Stickam™ as an effective tool in reaching the fickle MySpace generation. Earlier this month, Anime Expo, North America’s largest anime/manga convention, used Stickam™ to broadcast live from the Main Events Hall of its conference. Additionally, The Hollywood Prescription, a high-end beauty company, recently used Stickam™ to do a live broadcast of a party at Los Angeles’ Skybar, which featured an exclusive, live interview with Paris Hilton.

I feel you on this one…
Large unnecessary attachments don’t just take long to download & inconvenience the user… they bog down the internet. They bounce around multiple MTAs wasting as much bandwidth as possible before taking up residence on some poor system administrator’s disk drive. After the reader deletes them, they crawl to the trash folder of the IMAP server to hide silently and whittle away whatever resources they can get their filthy inodes into.
Thanks for not supporting large unnecessary attachments.
