Sunset at the Manatee County Public Beach

A nice sunset at the (Florida) Gulf Coast beach closest to our home, set to a piece by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) called “Bathed in the Light,” with ambient sound gradually bled in starting about halfway through. My wife Debbie is a painter and wanted to capture this sunset to incorporate in future paintings. Instead of snapping a couple of stills, I went overboard. I think the extra effort was worthwhile, and I hope you do, too.

Lately I’ve been resizing Google video links on this site down to 340X277 pixels (85%) to eliminate some of the digital “artifacts” introduced by Google’s Flash transcoding process. Google suggests uploading videos scaled to 640X480 pixels, although I see no difference between uploading at that size or using YouTube’s preferred 320X240. One thing I have noticed: If you upload high-resolution, full-motion videos larger than 320X240 to YouTube, you’ll may see poor sound synch in your video when it is displayed. This is a problem in their transcoding process that you should keep in mind when preparing videos for YouTube upload.

Here’s the YouTube version of the “Sunset” video shown above so you can see the (subtle but noticeable) difference in display quality between the two sites. I’ve reduced the YouTube version to 340 px wide, too.
