Why Mitt Romney Scares Me
So you’re a nice liberal American who prizes truth, justice, hard work, thrift, fairness, and other once-lauded values. You want a president who is a proven executive and isn’t beholden to the Rush-O’Reilly loonies. Mitt Romney looks pretty good. He presided over passage of the Massachusetts experiment in universal health care, seemed okay with gay marriage, supported women’s rights, and was a strong gun-controller while in office. Then you learn that he drives across the country with his dog in a crate strapped to the top of his car. And now supports the NRA’s “Everybody should have lots of guns” political position. And is now as homophobic as fellow Republicans who get caught buying blowjobs in park restrooms. Wow! Suddenly this Romney guy is scary. (This is a companion piece to Why Barack Obama Scares Me.)
Let’s take Mitt from the other side for a moment. Say you’re an upright Republican with a mandate from God to keep homosexuals and other perverts from living normal lives, make sure the richest Americans pay no taxes, and get rid of onerous government regulations that hamper honest businessmen.
If that’s you, Romney has been making lots of speeches lately that ought to make your heartstrings go “Twang!” On most social issues he’s talking Bushier than Bush, and on fiscal and tax issues he makes Ann Coulter seem like a kind-hearted do-gooder. Listening to Romney these days, it’s easy to think, “Finally - a 2008 presidential candidate with a good chance of winning who will help me salt away another 500 million untaxed dollars by letting me raise interest rates on the credit cards I issue to 300% per year while I move my entire processing operation to tax-free Screwistan, where the government will supply me with English-speaking slaves for only fifty cents a day, heh, heh, heh.”
Then a little demon whispers in your ear to remind you that Romney presided over Boston’s Big Dig, the most expensive and scandal-ridden construction project in U.S. history.
Somehow, Romney seems to be leaving this, um, accomplishment out of his recent speeches. I wonder why.
He also seems to have forgotten all the gun-control noise he made when he was governor of Massachusetts.
And he surely doesn’t want to remind anyone, of any political stripe, that he spent $7 million of his own money to run against Senator Ted Kennedy in 1994, and lost, or that his (successful) gubernatorial campaign in 2002 cost him another $6.3 million out of pocket.
Wow. You can buy a lot of $400 haircuts for that kind of cash!
The problem with Mitt Romney is that he seems to have at least two personalities. One is that of a good Republican who loves to lay off blue-collar workers and call it “business success,” as Romney did over and over when he was CEO of Bain Capital. The other Romney is more of a Democrat; married to the same woman for many years, raising children quietly, and going to church as often as he can.
Except, of course, Romney goes to the wrong church for a lot of people, what with being a Mormon.
Add that fact to Mitt’s flip-flopping, and he is a truly scary man.
Here’s one last bit of Mitt-fear for you: his real first name isn’t Mitt. That’s his middle name. His real first name, which he never uses, is Willard. As in the scary movie about rats.
Ewwww…………..

Oh please. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with putting the dog on top of the car. Nor with spending millions of your own money (as many of the people you’ve voted for have done, such as Kerry, who did even LESS to earn his money than Romney).
Oh right, but it’s wrong to lay off workers. Instead he should pay workers that aren’t needed, thus contributing to driving inflation so the workers he’s not laid off can’t afford to buy anything. Yeah, that makes perfect sense!
And your comment about it being a Democratic trait to stay married, raise good kids, and go to church is, of course, nonsensical. That’s like saying it is being a Republican to lay off workers, even though some of the most notorious layoff experts (Warren Buffett, for example) are Democrats. Neither of these things has anything to do with party affiliation.
Nor anything wrong with his committment to the Constitution, though I understand why Democrats have a problem with the Constitution: common people shouldn’t have rights, they might actually use them! Now, I’ll accept criticism that he is pandering here, but he was clearly on the wrong side of Constitutional rights before, so this is a pander from the evil to the good, which is far better than the reverse.
What I do not understand is why liberals think that the opposite of doing excellent work for society and the economy is being a “kind-hearted do-gooder.” That defies all reason.
But what you got the MOST wrong was that Romney “presided over” the Big Dig. The Big Dig started planning in 1982, funding in 1987, and construction in 1991. Romney was not in public office in Massachusetts until he became governor in 2003. All of the scandals and cost overrun problems existed before he got there.
Blaming Romney for the Big Dig is like blaming Reagan for the Cold War.
I know much of what you said is not serious, but I also know some of what you said you do believe, and especially with claims about the Big Dig, it’s hard to know which you are serious about and which you aren’t.

How effective can an article be when clearly the writer does not know what he is talking about and has one agenda. attack and destroy. full of personal opinions. I like these articles because when people get to know Romney they will realize he is the best choice by far. The writer scares me that he has not taken the time to see all of the good in Romney, especially when it is so obvious.

Interesting post… I dislike Romney, not because of his “flip flopping”, but because of what he was before what he claims to be now. He is pandering to the right, but secretly still a liberal. He knows he has to appease the NRA to get votes, so he’ll pretend to like guns… until he’s in the White House, and he can sign any ban the democrat-filled congress sends him. That scares me.
You have to face the fact that almost all of Mitt’s problems are shared by all politicians. He’s rich. He loves big business. He’ll say whatever he needs to say to get elected.
(Aside: an offer for anti-gun folks, and a bit on why hackers like guns.)

You got it right - from either the Left or the Right, you cannot trust Mitt Romney. He’s a chameleon. Always changing to fit in.
That’s because he is Mormon and Mormonism is always changing to fit in.
Life may be a box of chocolates, but in this case, you can’t even imagine what you’re gonna get. It won’t be sweet.

Like Mormonism, the blog isn’t what it seems.
(Lots of funny photos too.)

pudge,
1) Kerry spent his wife’s money, not his own.
2) I didn’t vote for Kerry.
3) Ronald Reagan helped cause the cold war. He was, in fact, a secret communist agent. A very serious lady at the John Birch Society’s American Opinion Library told me so when I was but a mere teenager.
4) Good or bad, do we really want a president named Willard?
5) Please remember that in the same serious spirit I am using to attack Willard M. Romney, I accused Barack H. Obama of dodging the draft by not being born until it ended. We should also note that Obama is a member of the U.S. Senate — the very same Senate that approved federal funding for the Big Dig in Boston. Guilt by association. Romney, at least, can stand up in court with one hand on a Koran and say, “I am not now and have never been a member of the U.S. Senate.”
6) I’m sure I will find equally evil dirt on all the other candidates with a little digging. Except Ron Paul, of course, who is God’s Chosen Angel. (I know this because I read it on The Internet.)
7) Warren Buffet wears such dorky glasses that no one takes him seriously except Bill Gates, who also wears dorky glasses.

robin:
1. Yes, that’s even worse.
2. I have pictures!
3. No, you’re thinking of FDR’s vice president, Henry Wallace.
4. Yes, but only if it is Willard Scott.
5. I think this was far less obviously nonserious than the Barack piece. Sure, the name stuff was obviously silly, but the stuff about the Big Dig and layoffs and money and flip-flopping is all stuff that serious (though in some cases, stupid) people are saying.
6. Ron Paul admitted this morning that he has never made a mistake except to not be harsh enough in his criticisms of the government.
7 and 8. Yes, but Bill Gates gives lots of money to children.

Check this out… the link above… sex phone operator by night… reporter by day. I’m not saying her real name. But keep in mind everyone has more than one personality. Get to know anyone well enough that everyone has more than one agenda. It’s just when agendas cross over. How did someone who was a virtual nobody get ahead? Were favors exchanged? Would you hire this person based on attractiveness? Or would you hire someone a little less sexually charged? I’m just saying everyone has two sides. If you try to point out little things here and there like blaming Mitt’s morals you would have to condemn the person above and not hire them. They would not be worthy of such high recognition as writing for Linux. That wouldn’t be fair… now would it? I will say some people advertise their flexible morals a bit more than others.

Mitt Zombie eh? Big business in the White House, eh? That sounds like the perfect cure for our disaterious economy that is the way it is because of big business. Well, actually big bankers. Romney is no less of a puppet for the CFR, neocons, then any of the other candidates, on all sides of the spectrum, except of course Congressman Dr. Ron Paul. Are you all comfortable knowing that the 30% of your hard earned wages is taken from you illegally? I mean, WTF?!?! Do you all know that there is absolutley NO LAW stating that it is mandatory to file taxes on your labor? Its all over the internet, yet no one cares to read about it. If the IRS came to you and said, “Hey, yah know, you really do not have to pay these taxes, but if yah want to, thats cool with us.” Would you check the option to still pay the tax? Of course not, it’s freakin 30% of what you make, of what you earned, of what you spent $40,000 for education to learn how to do!! Wake the heck up you sheeple!! Ever heard of the REAL ID card? The one that is being pushed into action and will soon be mandatory? Our liberties are being stripped away and you all are okay with that? Holy efen crap!! Ron Paul has NEVER voted to raise taxes, never voted for an unbalanced budget, never voted to raise congressional pay, and on and on. This man sticks to the Constitution which our founding fathers wrote which grant us our rights as human beings. Grants us our privacy, our right to free trade, and our right to work without our labor being taxed!!! The mainstream media is run by only 5 major corporations and you all buy into the crap they feed you, like these other candidates. Why do you think Ron Paul gets as little coverage as possible? Why do you think that when they do allow him to participate in the debates, they railroad him and ask him far out questions? Which when they do, they always end up eating it and get put in their place?? Has no one else noticed that he has won every vote that Fox runs after the debates? He speaks the truth!! He has received more money than any candidate, some combined, from active duty soliders!! Doesn’t that say anything?!? He wants to bring them all home, and to do it NOW. Not just the ones in Iraq, but in Germany, Korea, and all the other countries that we occupy!! We have no right and no business ocuppying other countries while our borders go unprotected!! For every dollar we give to Israel, 4 more dollars go to Arab nations. How can there be peace in the Middle East if we are funding Israel’s enemies? A country that is supposed to be important to us. Heck, we just sold Saudia Arabia $20 Billion dollars worth of weapons including guided bombs!! Did you know that the majority of 911 hijackers were from Saudia Arabia, not Iraq, not Iran, not Afghanastan, BUT Saudia Arabia, our supposed ally!! I am sorry, but you all need to wake up. Mitt Romney is NOT who you want for president. Do not be ignorant and play into the hands of the CFR and the bankers who control the federal reserve. Yeah, thats right, its controlled by bankers, not the government. The Fed Reserve is a 100% private company, and they are in control of making our money!! That is the right granted to the government by the Constitution, not the right of private bankers!! They are the reason for inflation, they are printing money out of thin air!! Our dollar is not even backed by gold anymore!! These are the people responsible for the housing collapse and effectively responsible for the economic collapse. Mitt Romney isn’t going to change that. He is part of their agenda, just like Ghouliani, Huckelberry, Clinton, Edwards, and yes, even Obama. They are all neither Republicans nor Democrats. They are neocons, members of the CFR, who are looking to unite Mexico with the USA and Canada, under one North American Union. Once that is complete, we will be combined with the European Union, the African Union, and the Asian Union when that is formed. Hopefully the people of Asia have more common sense then us to allow that to happen to them and I will be dead and gone before I am forced to be slave to a one world police government where we and our children are implanted with microchips so that if we get out of line, they just shut us off. Is that the world you want for your kids? For your grandkids? Quit being so selfish and quit acting like sheep. I am not sure how much more I can say to get through to people!!! THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS IN DEEP TROUBLE, unless we stop the trends that are putting us there!! Ron Paul can do that, and has a track record that says he is willing to do that!! Do not just eat what the media feeds you, you are not a baby, or a child!! Get on the internet and open you eyes and your mind, and do what is right!! I have rights and I’ll be damned if I am going to let ignorant people help to have MY rights taken from me!! This is a plea, not for me, not for you, but like I said, for our children and grandchildren. Do not let them be born slaves on the very continent their fathers conquered!! I hope I got through to someone. And you can guarantee when this all goes down, that is if Ron Paul is denied the opportunity to give us our God given freedom back, I will be right there to say “I told ya so”. The choice is yours, make it an educated one. Do some efen research before blabbing on about these goons who could care less about the average American Citizen. Who have said what they need to say to get votes. Two-Facers wearing a coat of facade to deceive us into thinking they want what we want. Ron Paul is the ONLY Republican to have voted against the war in Iraq! He is the only candidate that has not flip-flopped on his issues. He is clear and to the point. This country belongs to the people and should be run according the Constitution. Well I think I have said enough, but I know I have not. Please, just think of other people and not just yourself when you go to cast your vote, think of your country, and what it stands for, or what it is supposed to stand for, because if you vote for one of these CFR-backed candidates, you can say goodbye to the United States. I guess 200+ years was a good run, eh? Think about it.!! God, or whatever energy or entity preserves this universe, bless this country and forgive the ignorant sheeple, they know not what they do.
