What Republicans Learned From the Soviets

The greatest lesson the U.S. Republican Party learned from this country’s old enemy, the Soviet Union, was how Russia’s Communist Party kept control of Russia and its vassal states. Republican leaders are now applying those lessons to U.S. politics. This is very bad for America.

A good Communist Party is right. It is always right. Anyone who disagrees with its pronouncements is a dissident, probably even a traitor. There is no “loyal opposition” under a Soviet-style Communist regime. There is absolute orthodoxy, defined by the people at the top, who tell others what to believe. Those who fail to believe are tools of Satan — called “Capitalism” by the Soviets — who must be rooted out and punished.

When you are on the side of God — or a prophet like Karl Marx — and your opponents are Satan-worshippers — or Capitalists — you must attack them at every turn. Whenever or wherever they try to spread their filth, you must stop them, and you must make sure that The Truth is writ large everywhere. Your prayers must be public so that others can see that you are not, and have never been, a Satan-worshipper yourself. And if you happen to go beyond the law now and then in your effort to further God’s cause and vanquish Satan, there is no need to apologize. The ends justify the means.

With this thought pattern established, voting becomes a way to ratify the rulers’ beliefs, not a method through which the people can change their government’s direction. If there is a district with so many dissidents in it that it threatens to vote a heathen into office, you move district boundaries around until God’s candidates are sure to get into office and Satan’s Tools are forever sidelined. If this is done correctly, before long only Communists even bother to run. Even if dissidents are allowed to run for office without threat of prison or banishment, they will never win, so there is no point in their trying.

Elections are still held, of course, but their results get stranger and stranger: “Oh, look! 92% voted for Our Leader! He has a mandate from the people!”

Meanwhile, behind closed doors, the leaders wonder why 8% voted against them — and vow to do something about those dissidents. They’re probably Jews or Negros or something. Maybe create some special districts where they can all live together and not foul the nostrils of right-thinking citizens with their stink? Why not? Besides, some of them have nice homes and businesses that rightfully belong in the hands of God’s People; that should not be owned by subhuman trash.

It’s about the leaders, stupid

Whether you live in a Communist dictatorship, religious monarchy or a Republican-dominated U.S. state like Florida, you need to remember that government does not belong to you, but to those who sit on top of it. If you want a law that will guarantee health care for mothers working in minimum-wage jobs, and lobbyists for a major utility want a law that will help them charge minimum-wage mothers higher rates, the utility bill will always be heard first, and will have a greater chance of passage. Industry lobbyists have money and favors to give legislators, while poor working mothers have nothing to give (except possibly sex, and lobbyists will happily give legislators money to buy all the sex they want, so the working mothers will have a hard time using even this poor political currency).

Note that in either a Communist or Republican state the rulers and their buddies have chauffeurs, yachts, and mansions, while most of the working people sweat their bills every month. If the working people show signs of organizing to better their lot, Republicans (and Communists) like to pass “right to abuse workers” laws, which in the best Orwellian tradition they usually call “right to work” laws. And those workers who want to have better lives are called names: They are either “capitalist pigs” or “communists,” depending on the regime. Worse, whenever they wonder why they are supposed to pay taxes on their work-derived incomes while multi-millionaires who inherited their wealth and get all their income from stock and bond investments are supposed to pay no taxes on theirs, those workers are accused of “class warfare.”

Woah! Workers are combatants now. Enemies of the state. What scum! We must all unite to keep these radicals from ever gaining even a little bit of power. God says so.

Or maybe… just maybe… God has nothing to do with this. I suspect that current Republican leaders would fight to keep Jesus out of Congress (by any means necessary), because He has always been a threat to the established order. Worse, during His lifetime He displayed an obvious bias in favor of poor, working people — and against the rich who exploited them.

The Soviets were always against Jesus, too. But at least they admitted it. You’ve got to give them credit for at least that bit of honesty. Perhaps someday our Republicans, like the old Soviets, will admit that most of their current party goals go against Biblical teachings, trot out the secret police, and decide to run things their way without the hassle of winning elections against people who don’t agree with them.

Or maybe — just maybe — we’ll see enough American working people show up at the polls in the next few elections to vote some of our Communist-inspired Republican “leaders” out of office before they manage to get a complete lock on our country and ruin it for generations to come.
