This is a very cool gym, run by trainer Aaron Avalos, who is not only producing champion boxers but also keeping kids from joining gangs or otherwise getting into trouble. Timothy happened to be in town one day, so he and I visited La Fe. Coach Aaron taped a pair of gloves on Tim and let him thump away on a heavy bag — which wore Tim out more than three rounds of sparring wore out most of Aaron’s aspiring boxers. But it was fun all around, and Tim got on well with the boxers — who are just as fixated on their sport as a typical Slashdot geek is fixated on technology.
