Drug Company Won’t Study $60 Replacement for $2000 Eye Treatment

“What does a company do when there is anecdotal evidence that two of its drugs are equally effective in treating a leading cause of blindness in the elderly, one costing patients $60 per treatment and the other $2,000? In the case of Genentech Inc., nothing.”

Note that these drugs are primarily used to treat old people, which means taxpayers like you and me are paying for them. Now repeat three times: “The free market is always right, and American companies always have the public’s best interest at heart.” Yeah, I know. You couldn’t get through that statement once without cracking up, let alone three times. Neither could I :)
