One Thursday Night in Curacao…

Curacao is a Caribbean island about 35 away from Venezuela, Like nearby Aruba and Bonaire, it is part of the Netherland Antilles. The official language is Dutch, although most residents speak Papiamento, and many also speak Spanish or English. Anyway, I was there. And outside my hotel, on the banks of the canal that cuts through downtown Willemstad, there was a party going on. And what a party! It was part of a folk festival featuring dancers, singers, and other performers, with a crowd of at least 5000 in attendance — and hardly a tourist in sight. This was a local event, for and by Curacao residents. I was rare in that crowd just by being white, but it didn’t matter. Everyone was dancing and generally being nice, and my video camera was 100% welcome, as was I. This video is just a tiny taste of what I saw…
