Torturing Terri Schaivo
I am not a religious man, but the Terri Schiavo situation has been forcing me to wonder if, indeed, the devil is not on this Earth and controlling a whole lot of people’s minds. What other explanation could there be for so many politicians and members of the “religious right” putting so much passion into keeping a poor, brain-damaged woman “alive” instead of letting her go to Heaven?
If Terri Schaivo is a non-responsive vegetable, letting her go would be a simple act of mercy. If she’s aware inside that husk of a body after 15 years of non-movement and no effective communication, she is undoubtedly insane and in a constant state of anguish. Once again, letting her go would be an act of mercy.
Any Christian who argues in favor of prolonging Terri Schiavo’s pain instead of letting her go to Jesus must think the Spanish Inquisition was Christianity’s finest moment. A politician who helps torture Terri would probably reject international law that prohibits torturing prisoners of war, too, which would be not only unChristian but unAmerican. We don’t need people like that in public office in our country unless we want to start reading passages from The Book of Satan before every public meeting.
I shudder whenever I see pictures of Terri Schiavo. My first thought is always, “There but for the grace of God go I.” My second thought is that “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” applies here, and I do not want to be kept alive by artificial means, including feeding tubes, once my brain has stopped working long enough that I am no longer functionally human.
A kind and compassionate — one might even say “Christian” — person would load Terri Schiavo up with Morphine or another strong painkiller and let her drift peacefully out of this life.
A person controlled by a devil or demon would fight to prolong her torture.
Those who claim they are torturing Terrie Schiavo because they are protecting “the sanctity of life” or “doing God’s will” need to look deep inside themselves and see the blasphemy they are committing.
Then they should fall to their knees and ask God to forgive them for the evil they have done in His name — and hope like mad that God is more compassionate toward them than they have been toward Terri Schaivo.

I totally agree. Looking back on this incident, it seems even more ridiculous now.
