On Hold with Verizon for More Than Two Hours, Trying to Cancel DSL Service

This is not a joke. I tried to cancel online. No joy. I tried their “online chat” and got referred to a 404 page. Then I called the customer service number on the phone bill. Got cut off after going through a number of voice mail layers. Called again. Same thing. Started saying “human” and “agent” and punching 0 right away. Got a person, went through a voice mail layer that told me it would transfer me “to someone who could help,” who turned out to be someone who transferred me to someone else… or actually to “hold” status since “all agents are busy assisting other customers.”

Meanwhile, I’m listening to an endless string of FIOS commercials starring a fake character called “Dr. Buddy” who is supposedly answering questions from callers. Except how do those callers get through?

Brighthouse, our local cable monopoly, is reasonably evil and stupid, but at least they answer their phone. Verizon? Amazing. They have already lost our business because of poor service, and are now working to make sure they don’t get us back anytime soon.

At least, this is how I interpret their behavior.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper for Verizon to treat customers decently than to constantly advertise for new ones?

Exactly why I refuse to ever switch to them. I’m stuck with Brighthouse as long as I need fast internet for work, but I refuse to run to the more Evil Empire that is Verizon.
