Jo Ellen Gorris is a prolific sculptor who loves to get other people involved. Most Thursday mornings a neighborhood group gathers at Clay in the Garden to do pottery. And almost any other time JoEllen is at her Bradenton studio, you’re welcome to pick up a lump of clay and work along with her. JoEllen’s statement that hers is the only (messy) “working studio” in the Village of the Arts is not quite true; Miki Boni and others have well-used studio space, too. But JoEllen’s studio is probably the only one that doesn’t have a separate, cleaned-up showroom or gallery space. In her case, massaging the clay is the message.
The 3rd annual WeMedia conference held by iFocos. I call this style a “video medley” because it uses snippets of a number of sessions and comments about the event in much the same way a musical medley uses parts of several songs to create a whole that may be greater than the sum of its parts.

In St. Petersburg, Florida, police used knives to cut up tents at a homeless camp. They were caught doing this on video. Many people, including (after the fact) the mayor and police chief, were horrified by police making life more miserable for people already living in misery on the bottom fringe of society. The reality is that homeless camps are the wave of the future. We are going to have more of them, so we might as well have clean, decent ones with toilets, showers, and electricity.
